Durathread brass heat set inserts are now available in 1/2"-28 — one of the most widely used thread sizes in firearms, fluid systems, and industrial hardware.

We're offering Short style inserts in 5-pack, 10-pack, and 20-pack quantities, all machined from CDA 360 free-machining brass. Shop 1/2"-28 inserts →

What Uses 1/2"-28 Threads?

The 1/2"-28 thread pitch is a standard across several industries. Here are some of the most common applications:

Firearm muzzle devices — 1/2"-28 is the standard muzzle thread for .223 Remington, 5.56 NATO, and .22 LR barrels. Devices that thread onto a 1/2"-28 muzzle include:

  • Muzzle brakes and compensators — reduce felt recoil and muzzle rise
  • Flash hiders and flash suppressors — minimize visible muzzle flash
  • Suppressors (silencers) — attach via direct-thread mount to the barrel
  • Thread protectors — cap the threads when no device is installed
  • Blast forwarding devices — redirect concussion away from the shooter

Automotive and fuel systems — 1/2"-28 is used in certain fuel filter housings, fittings, and adapter assemblies. It's a common thread size for inline filter connections.

Hydraulic and pneumatic fittings — some industrial fluid power systems use 1/2"-28 fine-thread fittings where a tighter seal or finer adjustment is needed compared to coarse-thread alternatives.

Custom jigs, fixtures, and 3D-printed tooling — embedding a 1/2"-28 brass insert into a printed part lets you create threaded mounting points for any of the above devices without machining metal.

Why Use Heat Set Inserts for 1/2"-28?

If you're prototyping fixtures, building custom tooling, or designing 3D-printed accessories that need to interface with 1/2"-28 hardware, a brass heat set insert gives you durable metal threads in a plastic part. The insert can handle repeated assembly and disassembly without stripping — something a tapped plastic hole can't do at this size.
